Show me a person who claims to be “self made” and I’ll show you a person with zero humility.
I cringe when I hear people toss the term, “self made” around as if it’s some sort of haughty title bestowed on a person who has any sort of marginal success… BY the same person. The whole concept of, “I am where I am today and have achieved the level of success I have is thanks to my own diligence, hard work, commitment, and absolute brilliance” is absolute and utter ego-inflated B.S.
No one is “self made.”
I don’t care where you came from, how difficult your upbringing was, and what sort of challenges you have had to overcome. And I don’t care how amazing your life is now and what sort of astounding accomplishment you may claim.
You did not do it alone. You had help, in one shape or form.
And I wager you had lots and lots of it. The mere fact that YOU were the one to claim the fame and the glory all to yourself does not mean others along your journey to your success do not own part of the credit.
Stay humble, be grateful, thank those who empowered you, and empower others.
